The Marion County Library selected DMA to evaluate their existing historic structure, provide preservation services, and to develop a schematic design for the significant renovation and expansion of the County Headquarters Library to 21,975 square feet.
In working with the Library and public, DMA developed a design that respects the existing building while providing a new main entry in the form of a temple facing north. This form serves as a link between the existing building and the new grandly-scaled Reading Room with fireplace to the east. The temple form, clad in a white limestone tile, provides a clear icon of entrance once the existing entry to the library faces a proposed garden to be surrounded by a cast-iron fence.
