In addition to developing two designs reusing the existing Flint Public Library structure, DMA was asked to develop a third option that does not preserve the existing mid-Century modern structure. This library design houses a 300-seat auditorium, a two-story, 100' diameter cylindrical Reading Room, Exhibit Spaces, an African-American Sports Hall of Fame, greatly expanded Children's and Teen services, and numerous computing and group meeting spaces.
As the gateway to the Flint Cultural Center Campus, this Library invites opportunities for patrons to be exposed to the rich offerings of nearby institutions including the Flint Museum of Art, the Sloan Museum, the Flint Institute of Music, Longway Planetarium, and Whiting Auditorium.
