Flint Library Planning Study

Untitled document

The firm of David Milling Architects (DMA), in association with Anders Dahlgren, was engaged by the Flint Public Library to conduct a Needs Assessment and Building Evaluation. Following a series of Staff Workshops to shape the library's program for the 21st Century, DMA developed two alternate designs to test the feasibility of renovating and expanding the existing Library on the Flint Cultural Center Campus with a LEED Silver/Gold structure.

Each design reuses the existing building to the greatest extent possible, while positioning the Library as a Gateway to the neighboring cultural institutions. In both designs, additional square footage is gained by adding a much larger form that reveals selected portions of the existing building's perimeter.
