Eastwood Branch Library
Kalamazoo Public Library
This library is nestled quietly into the residential Eastwood neighborhood. Although it is equipped with all the technological capabilities of a modern day facility, it maintains the character of a more traditional public library.
As a focal point within the interior of the building, the ceiling planes above the circulation desk create a pyramidal void culminating in a skylight that crowns the building's roof line with a prismatic-shaped cupola. Beyond the centrally located aedicula lie periodicals, the browsing selections, and the adult collection. Continuing the Egyptian theme, old prints illustrating polychrome capitals of classical columns adorn the walls in these spaces. South of the circulation desk is the children's collection, with an adjacent story room to the west. Here, original watercolors by an illustrator of children's books line the walls.
