New Public Library

Broome County, NY

David Milling Architects partnered with BCK Architects & Engineers of Binghamton, NY, in designing this competition-winning submission for the proposed new 95,000 sq. ft. Broome County Public Library. The competition entry for the two-story Central Library was designed by DMA to project a progressive landmark image that is respectful of Binghamton's historic past while planning for future urban revitalization. The design invites activities programmed for the entry lobby, such as Friends Book Sales, to spill outside beneath a protected area during warm weather.

Due to a reduction in available funding from $12 million, a smaller facility of 70,000 square feet was completed by the affiliated local firm, BCK Architects & Engineers, in June of 2001.
