The graduate library building, completed by architect Albert Kahn in 1920, suggests strong design derivations from the 1915 Widener Library at Harvard University. The Harlan Hatcher Graduate Library is one of the premiere landmarks on the University's Central Campus. As such, it provides an axial counterpoint to the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies. DMA is consulting with the library's administrative staff on space planning for repositioning the public service desks and seating areas, in addition to specifying new Axminster carpet of a neoclassical design for the Great Reading Room.
